03 Mar, 2010 10:54 AM
The Broughton Areas Basketball Association social basketball grand final was held at Redhill last Monday, February 22.

In the A Grade grand final, Legends defeated Snowtown 19-17, and in the B grade grand final Brinkworth/Koolunga defeated Gladstone 34-30.

Both games were played in great spirit and were close until the final whistle.

Luke Dohnt won the men’s Best and Fairest with 9 votes, and Pastor Fin Clein was the runner-up on 8.

In the women’s there was a tie for Best and Fairest between Kerry Blackwell and Nicole Darling on 10 votes, with Bernie Keech receiving the runner-up medal on 8. Nick Hayes received the JL Coffey Memorial Trophy for most votes by an Under 16 player.

A great, social season was had by everyone involved, and more players and teams are encouraged to join in the fun for the next season.

Congratulations to the Legends! I may have left Koolunga many years ago to work elsewhere, but, always remember the great community we grew up in. cheers Andrew
