Jamestown Peterborough Football and Netball Club inducted two life members and awarded two Bill Kerin Service Awards at its annual wind up on September 14.
The life memberships were awarded to Kevin O’Leary and Jim Moss, while the Bill Kerin Service Awards were presented to Janet Fielding and Peter Hunter.
Kevin O’Leary has had a long association with the club, having played around 250 games until his retirement in 1984.
He was part of the senior colts premiership team in 1968, started senior football in 1969 playing B Grade and won a premiership in 1972. He played A Grade in 1973.
He was B grade captain in 1981, 1982, and 1983, premiership captain in 1981 and 1983 and B grade best & fairest in 1981 and 1983.
Kevin coached the minis in the early 1990s, and is the B grade manager at present, as well as Thursday night teas co-ordinator.
The second life membership was awarded to Jim Moss who has served the club tirelessly as club trainer for well over 20 years and still continues to do so.
Jim has displayed utmost dedication and commitment on Tuesday and Thursday nights to keep the footballers on the track and then to be on call whenever a player was in need.
Has also been on call for the netballers, whenever strapping is required.
Jim has also made himself available to drive the bus on countless football/netball trips and is quite often found in the kitchen on Thursday’s helping with teas.
Both Janet Fielding and Peter Hunter won Bill Kerin Service Awards for their long standing dedication and commitment to Peterborough’s football and netball clubs and more recently, to the merged Jamestown-Peterborough Football and Netball Club
Janet Fielding’s roles have been many and varied, including secretary of the Peterborough Football Club, President Jamestown Peterborough Netball Club,
Life Member of the Peterborough Netball Club, playing more than 300 games for Peterborough Netball Club (including an Association B&F in the F Grade), canteen co-ordinator for Peterborough Thursday night and Saturday night teas, coaching, organising the bus to transport junior players to Jamestown trainings, and member of JPFNC Combined committee since its inception.
Peter Hunter’s Bill Kerin Service Award acknowledged his tireless efforts on game days, organising boundary umpires, time keepers, goal umpires etc.
He has been secretary of the Peterborough Football club and was secretary of the JPFNC in 2006 and 2007.
Peter has worked continuously with the Peterborough Council to keep the oval up to playing standard.
