Show gate takings up on last year

21 Oct, 2009 10:07 AM
Clare Agricultural and Horticultural Society president Norm Crowther was pleased with all aspects of Saturday’s show, with gate takings $1000 up on last year.

From horses, to dog jumping, motorbike displays and the brand new ‘Vine Trail’ (similar to the Yellow Brick Road) the show was packed full of things to do for young and old alike.

“The animal sections were well catered for, the weather was great and even the sideshow alley was packed with a couple of new rides,” Mr Crowther said.

Throughout the day show goers enjoyed a variety of different trade stalls, packed pavilions with cakes, flowers and photographs.

“The schools display was fantastic, it was great to have the involvement from all of them including The Gums Childcare Centre and the new Vine Trail was fantastic also,” he said.

Some of the main attractions at the show included an ongoing motorcycle and moto trial display from the Clare Motorcycle Club.

They also completed a display before the fireworks on the main arena, giving the crowd something to watch from the youngest rider at five years old to senior riders who are all part of the club.

“We thank them (the motorcycle club) very much for the effort they put in, it was just fantastic to watch and they went all day long it was great,” he said.

Along with this the local car dealerships, and farm machinery displays had attracted plenty of people to look through the new ranges.

“The ute muster was very well attended and Steve has once again done a fantastic job,” Mr Crowther said.

With 24 utes entered in the Valley Muster, organiser Steve Duke was pleased with the crowd of locals and those who had travelled for the competition.

Steve would like to see more utes next year and there are plenty of locals with utes who can enter in the competition – don’t forget once the judging is over you can show off your ute in the grand parade.

Another big drawcard of the show was the shearing competition with entrants coming from Victor Harbour Truro, Mt Torrens and locals from Blyth, Brinkworth and even Jamestown for the competition.

“We thank all our competitors for coming and especially the sponsors for sponsoring the event,” convenor John Pese said.

And behind the shearing shed the sheep dogs were busy jumping great heights in the dog jumping competition that drew a crowd of about 300 people for the event.

Simon Helbig of Clare was named the 2009 Young Rural Ambassador and past mayor Patricia Jacka OAM opened the show and Ron Gepp and Malcolm Stevens (past president) were made life members of the show.

“The fireworks spectacular was just that, it was fantastic and I am absolutely delighted with the outcome of the show this year,” Mr Crowther said.
