A group of local horse riders set off from Gladstone on October 16 on a quest to raise funds and awareness for the proposed Panorama Project for the town.
They travelled 200 kilometres to Hawker to help fund the artwork that will give a 360 degree “view” of the Southern Flinders painted by world renowned panorama painter Jeff Morgan of Hawker.
Riders had already collected almost $2000 before they set off, thanks to support from both inside and outside the community, including a substantial donation from adventurer and businessman Dick Smith.
An official Australia Post mailbag was carried by riders containing letters from Gladstone Primary and St Joseph’s School students and delivered to students at Orroroo and Hawker schools.
The ride helped raise awareness of the Panorama project as well as raising double the budgeted $2000, with more than $4000 banked for the project.
Construction and design of the proposed Gladstone Panorama has been costed at $900,000 for the 20 metre diameter circular art gallery which will also house a tourist information centre and rest rooms.
