Murray and Ann I’Anson, their daughters Karyn and Gayle and their husbands, and their son Kym and wife Katie, hosted a family reunion on September 19 to celebrate the 150 years that I’Ansons have lived at “Prospect Hill Farm”, Steelton, and about 150 guests from throughout Australia attended.
The guests enjoyed looking around the home and historic buildings, lunch, catching up with relatives, listening to interesting stories and live music and spending time looking into the history of the I’Anson family.
The original owner of the property was Leonard I’Anson and his wife Maria who took up the land in 1859. The homestead was built in 1869 and descendants of Leonard and Maria have lived there ever since. Five generations of I’Ansons have lived at “Prospect Hill Farm”.
The fourth and fifth generations who now live on the property felt that this historic occasion was well worth celebrating.
The celebration recognised 150 years of owning the property, the 140th year of the homestead and the 200th birthday of Leonard I’Anson who was born in September 1809.
The five generations of I’Ansons who have farmed at “Prospect Hill Farm” are Leonard and Maria 1859-1875; Thomas and Jessie 1876-1936; Ivan and Ruth 1937-1970; Murray and Ann 1971-2003 and Kym and Katie 2004-present.
