District Governor Elect, Lion John McIntosh, from the Barossa Club, conducted the annual Handover ceremony for the Lions Club of Gilbert Valley.
A sumptuous dinner was provided by the Saddleworth Historical Society, for the event, in the Saddleworth RSL clubrooms, which is now also used by the Lions Club for monthly meetings.
Members of Kapunda, Gawler, Barossa, Angaston, and Mallala Lions clubs joined the celebration.
Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council Mayor Allan Aughey, accompanied by Mayoress Lyn, proposed the toast to Lions Clubs International.
This was responded to by District Governor, Lion Tom Martin, of Minlaton Club, who was accompanied by his wife, Lioness Helen.
District Governor Tom inducted two new members into the club - Bob Rogers from Riverton, and Elizabeth Calvert, from Manoora.
After president Frank Reed delivered his annual report, which included details of the many organizations - local, national, and international - which the club has supported during the year.
Lion John McIntosh inducted Lion Frank Gorey as President for year 2009/10.
In responding, president Frank outlined his plans for the coming year.
They included having more social events such as meals, and projecting a less formal image, in the hope that this will attract more, and younger, residents, both men and women, to join and help us continue to raise funds for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Having pooled meals in the clubhouse will reduce the cost to members.
Members come from all areas of the Gilbert Valley, and president Frank Gorey challenges community minded people to come and see what we do, and become part of this world wide service organization.
