The Saddleworth and Districts Historical Society held a successful gala day on Saturday which was enjoyed by all who attended.
There was morning and afternoon tea and a barbecue for lunch. There were lots of games and puzzles to test your IQ, stalls to browse around, demonstrations to watch and the museum to look through. The live music was great and face painting was popular with the children.
The competition in the mini show section was excellent and the locals exhibited enthusiastically. The cut flowers and floral arrangements were beautiful. The pot plants, ferns and succulents were very good and so was the cooking, handicraft, art and photography.
The children of the district put in super exhibits. Their cooking section displayed the work of excellent up-and-coming cooks, their art and craft sections showed their skills and imaginations and they also took part in the photography, the flower and vegetable sections.
Saddleworth and Districts Historical Society president Laurice Vater said: “We were very pleased with the day, there was great support from the community with sponsorship, there were bumper entires in the show section and the crowd was extremely good”.
The committee acknowledged the help of the Gilbert Valley Hotel for allowing them to use the hotel’s large function room for the show section.
Comments at the end of the day were “very good day”. “lots of fun”, “good crowd”, “hope there is another one next year”.
