Colourful cars and even more colourful characters will descend on Clare in August next year, when the South Australian Variety Bash comes to town.
Variety SA has chosen the start and finish of the 2010 Bash, which will set out from Murray Bridge and conclude in Clare.
There are still some logistical matters to nut out with the local Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council, with Bash organisers looking at Clare’s main street and Ennis Park as a suitable spot for the end of Bash celebrations.
At their October 19 meeting councillors agreed to support the event in general, subject to details such as parking and traffic flow being resolved.
“We hope to meet with the council next month and fine tune the details,” SA Variety events manager Jane Coldbeck said.
More than 100 vehicles and about 350 participants will be involved in the event.
“We have had such wonderful support from Bash cars from Clare and thought it would be lovely to give something back.
“Tim Adams has been a particularly wonderful fundraiser.”
Vehicles will park in the street in lines about three wide, giving everyone a chance to take a close look at the cars and their crews.
Clare last hosted a finish for the SA Variety Bash in 1993.
Variety is happy to consider applications for funding from organisations, schools or individuals that fall within their guidelines.
Bashers will overnight in the town before dispersing and the entire Bash route will be announced early next year.
